Situated in the heart of the République district, this lively strip of theatres and concert halls was frequented by Parisian high society throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, even Victor Hugo himself was known to see a show! As the city expanded towards the end of the 19th century, the working class began to take over the neighborhood and with it came a new wave of construction of various circus and concert halls, including the Palais des Glaces.
This historic venue has been used for all kinds of performances, from circus to concerts, cinema to theatrical performances. Completely reconstructed in 1924, the venue was named for its facade once comprised entirely of mirrors. Now, however, you'll see that has entirely been changed, and replaced by an iconic elephant to celebrate one of their 1980s performances. The elephant was such a hit, they decided to keep it! An incredible amount of celebrated performers have performed on the stage of the Palais des Glaces, from Nina Simone to The Clash! Just steps away from the ever-lovely Canal Saint Martin, you never know what you'll find at this venue known for 2 things, its variety and its iconic elephant facade!
