HIGHLIGHTS: THISISPAIN

Join us for the incredible performance of THISISPAIN, presented at the Théâtre du Rond-Point from November 5th to November 17th, 2024 is a contemporary dance show by Israeli choreographer Hillel Kogan. In collaboration with flamenco dancer Mijal Natan, he offers an exploration of questions of identity through the prism of flamenco dance.

 

On stage, Hillel Kogan and Mijal Natan confront and connect with each other, blending their respective body languages. Flamenco, with its fiery rhythms and exacerbated movements, dialogues with Hillel Kogan's more fluid and introspective contemporary movement.

 

The dance performance of THISISPAIN is more than just a flamenco performance. It is a quest for a plural, multifaceted identity, where Hillel Kogan's Israeli origins and Mijal Natan's Spanish heritage intersect, nourish each other and harmonise. The show sheds light on the notions of belonging, tradition and diaspora, and cleverly questions what defines "being Spanish" in the age of globalisation.

 

THISISPAIN expresses the power of dance beyond words. The dancers' bodies become vectors of emotion, translating the joys, sorrows, questions and identity struggles that course through our humanity.

If you ever want to feel the pulse of the French theatre scene, the Théâtre du Rond-Point is the place to be! But which roundabout or "rond-point" is it exactly? It's one of the most famous roundabouts in Paris, located near the Champs-Elysées, smaller than the famous Etoile roundabout under the Arc de Triomphe. Since 1981, it has attracted a host of directors from all over the world and a host of people with a passion for theatre. A major venue for contemporary creation since 1991, the Rond-Point does not programme "what people like, but what they don't yet know they like", according to Jean-Michel Ribes, the theatre's former director. Since 2023, Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel have taken over the reins of this theatre, which is still rooted in contemporary creation and focuses on living authors.
