History and Fun Facts about the Theatre de Passy
Behold - a sparkling gem of the Art Deco movement, and a theatre unparalleled in its charm and whimsy! The Théâtre de Passy is a theatre located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Opened in 1869, it has undergone many transformations over the years, from a boulevard theatre, to a cinema, and then to a more contemporary venue. In the 1920s, the theatre was transformed into a cinema and became very successful by regularly screening silent films. In 1932, it was converted into a more modern venue, hosting musicals, concerts and contemporary plays. Despite its storied past, it still retains a degree of its gorgeous 20s-era opulence, and is most certainly a must-see for any fans of the roaring 20s!
Over the years, the Théâtre de Passy has hosted many famous artists, such as Maurice Chevalier, Josephine Baker, and Edith Piaf. In 1961, a new hall was built to accommodate larger shows, such as operas and ballets. Today, the Théâtre de Passy continues to offer a varied programme, ranging from classical theatre to contemporary musicals. Why not pay a visit?
