History and Fun Facts about the Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre Church

Almost in the shadow of Notre-Dame, opposite the Ile de la Cité, stands the church of Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre in the Latin Quarter, where the Christians of the East have been worshiping since 1889. It is the Greek-Melkite-Catholic church of Paris. You have certainly passed by this small medieval church without paying attention. However, it is well worth a visit! One of the oldest churches in Paris, its construction was launched at the same time as the construction of Notre-Dame. It boasts a beautiful slab from the ancient Roman road from Lutetia to Orleans, a magnificent wrought iron pulpit, and an icon of Saint Julien, also known as Saint Julien l'Hospitalier. Finally, if you want to see what a North American locust tree planted in 1602 looks like, we invite you to visit the garden next to this original church to discover one! It is considered the oldest tree in Paris! As we said, this church is really worth a visit!
