Story: Encore une journée divine

After twenty-five years away from the stage, François Cluzet makes a remarkable return to the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens with Encore une journée divine, a one-man show adapted from the novel by Denis Michelis.

Directed by Emmanuel Noblet, Cluzet takes on the role of Robert, a renowned therapist and essayist who finds himself admitted to a psychiatric hospital after employing unconventional therapeutic methods. Frustrated by his patients' lack of progress, Robert advocates for action over introspection. But his institutionalisation raises questions: is he a misunderstood visionary or a genuine danger to society?

Emmanuel Noblet, who won the Molière for Réparer les vivants in 2017, masterfully blends dark comedy with the intensity of a psychological thriller in his direction. He provides François Cluzet with the perfect stage to deliver a gripping performance, blending humour and tension. Alain Lagarde’s minimalist set design mirrors the protagonist’s mental landscape, drawing the audience deeper into the labyrinth of his mind.

Encore une journée divine is a deep dive into the complexities of the human psyche, brought to life by an actor at the peak of his artistry. This play offers a thought-provoking exploration of the fine line between genius and madness, challenging the boundaries set by society.

History and Fun Facts about the Theatre des Bouffes Parisiens

Nestled in the heart of the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens is one of those rare gems where the spotlight shines bright… and the audience keeps coming back for more.

Founded in 1855 by none other than Jacques Offenbach, this theatre was originally the temple of opéra-bouffe—a delightful blend of satire and light-hearted melodies. It was here that Offenbach scored his first big hits, proving that music and comedy could go hand in hand, without taking themselves too seriously.

Over the years, the Bouffes Parisiens has evolved into a stage for comedy, operetta, and contemporary productions. Legends like Sacha Guitry and Jean Poiret have filled its halls with razor-sharp dialogue and iconic one-liners. In fact, this very theatre premiered La Cage aux Folles in 1973 before it took the world by storm—proof that the Bouffes Parisiens has a knack for picking winners.

With its intimate 600-seat auditorium, the theatre offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, fostering an undeniable connection between artists and audiences. The perfect setting to laugh, be moved, and leave utterly enchanted.

Today, the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens continues to host top-tier productions, striking the perfect balance between modern comedies and musical spectacles.

Its secret? A daring yet respectful mix of tradition and innovation, making it a haven for theatre lovers with high standards… but above all, a taste for great entertainment.
So, are you ready to step inside and treat your eyes—and ears—to something truly special?
