STORY: COUP FATAL

Coup fatal, presented at the Théâtre du Rond-Point from March 28th to April 5th, 2025, is a musical show devised by the artists Rodriguez Vangama, Alain Platel and Fabrizio Cassol. This sonic journey blends the richness of European baroque with the vibrant pulse of Congolese music, for a stimulating experience of musical vibration.

On stage, some fifteen artists - musicians, singers and dancers - bring together two musical worlds that might seem opposites: European Baroque, with its complex melodies and delicate harmonies, and Congolese music, rich in lively rhythms and polyphonic chants.

Coup fatal is not just a musical show, it's also an exploration of themes that cross cultures and eras. Love, loss, joy and resilience are expressed through the voices of the singers and the movements of the dancers.

The show is also a feast for the eyes. The artists' colourful costumes and extravagant hairstyles, inspired by Congolese and Baroque traditions, create a very festive and particularly joyful atmosphere. A vibrant tribute to music and culture in all their diversity, this show celebrates the beauty of cultural mixing and the unifying power of art.

Whether you're a fan of baroque music, Congolese music or simply looking for an original, festive show, Coup fatal is a not-to-be-missed event. This show will transport you to a world where cultures meet and emotions are freely expressed through the beauty of music.

History and Fun Facts about Théâtre du Rond-Point

If you ever want to feel the pulse of the French theatre scene, the Théâtre du Rond-Point is the place to be! But which roundabout or "rond-point" is it exactly? It's one of the most famous roundabouts in Paris, located near the Champs-Elysées, smaller than the famous Etoile roundabout under the Arc de Triomphe. Since 1981, it has attracted a host of directors from all over the world and a host of people with a passion for theatre. A major venue for contemporary creation since 1991, the Rond-Point does not programme "what people like, but what they don't yet know they like", according to Jean-Michel Ribes, the theatre's former director. Since 2023, Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel have taken over the reins of this theatre, which is still rooted in contemporary creation and focuses on living authors.
