The Saint-Séverin Church

If you are a lover of religious artwork and you are looking for the niches splendors of ecclesiastical iconography offered to you in Paris, apart from the museums, then a visit to the church of Saint-Séverin is a must! Take your time to admire the several artworks this church has to offer such as The Preaching of St John the Baptist, The Marriage of the Virgin, The Last Supper, Christ with Martha and Mary, St Genevieve distributing bread to the poor, The Translation of the Crown of Thorns, The Apotheosis of St Francis of Sales, and the superb golden fresco of the Tree of Jesse (the first use of the image of a tree to depict genealogy in Western art)...

In the Saint-Séverin Church, a jewel of flamboyant gothic style from the 15th century, we also invite you to discover the superb stained glass window, the double-collateral constructions, and the double ambulatory. This particular church will plunge you into a world of medieval art in a bewitching atmosphere from another century.

Located in the heart of the lively Latin Quarter, the church owes its name to the presence of a hermit named Séverin who settled there in the 6th century. Where once was solitude is now a bustling metropolis; the centuries may follow one another but they are not alike! Music lovers will not be left out since they will be found with dropped jaws at the superb sculpted organ housed in the Saint-Séverin Church. Take this unique chance to see a grandiose concert in which an organ along with other instruments will resound in a casing of the most medieval of architecture!
