La Comédie de Paris
La Comédie de Paris
Are you familiar with "Streamline Moderne" architecture? It is the architectural style featured in some art deco buildings in Miami. What does that have to do with a theatre? To find out, visit La Comédie de Paris to admire its facade, now listed as a historical monument.
It has taken several names and many shows, from the most classic to the most daring, for La Comédie de Paris to finally be called... La Comédie de Paris. It was originally called "Les Menus plaisir," then became "Le Théâtre de l'humour," "Le Nouveau Théâtre Libre," the "Studio-Théâtre" and the "Love-Théâtre."
Opened on December 24, 1929, it began its life as a fashionable cabaret just at the foot of Montmartre hill. During the Second World War, the music hall tradition was abandoned in favor of more comical shows. It was only at the beginning of the ‘80s, that the theatre became a staple of comedy in Paris. Today, we advise you to bring your tissues, not for tears of sadness but rather for tears of... of laughter!
