Situated between the rush of the winter holidays and the swarms of tourists during summer vacation, springtime is perhaps the most quiet and underrated time of the year visit to visit Paris. There is an overwhelming amount of perks to take advantage of during spring in Paris, but the cultural events are some of the best.

Salon du Livre

For all those bookworms and bibliophiles that have already visited the classic Shakespeare & Co. and are looking for more literary treats, one of our favourite, exclusively springtime, activities in Paris is the Salon du Livre, which this year runs from the 16th to the 19th of March, 2018. This year will mark the 38th edition of this famous book fair. More than 3000 renowned and new authors from 45 countries will be onsite displaying their fascinating intellectual, literary and cultural worlds. With book signings, debates, various events and workshop radio, the Salon du Livre is a wonderful way to experience the joy of literature in a Parisian light.

Paris Marathon

2018 marks the 42nd annual Paris Marathon, which will be held on April 8 and is predicted to have over 40,000 participants. Those who are brave enough to take part in this incredible feat will start at the Arc de Triomphe, pass iconic landmarks such as Place de la Concorde, Place de la Bastille, Bois de Vincennes, Notre Dame, and of course, the pride and joy of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, to finally end near Foch Avenue. So whether you plan to run, or leisurely follow at your own pace and encourage the participants, the Paris marathon serves a wonderful way to experience Parisian life, while at the same time checking off plenty of things off your Parisian bucket list! La Foire du Trone

La Foire du Trone (in English, the Throne Fair), is the largest carnival in France and the oldest. This year marked its 1061st anniversary, having begun in the days of knights in shining armor, as both a carnival and market especially known for spiced bread and delicacies. The event has come a long way since then, and now welcomes over 5 million visitors annually for thrills, fun, and treats. In 2018 it will run for 60 days from March 30 to May 27, so never fear: there is a wide window to catch all the games, fun and sensations. Seated on the lawn of Reuilly, La Foire du Trone provides entertainment for the whole family from typical carnival food, such as cotton candy, candy apples, waffles and donuts, to thrilling rides such as the 80 meter high Skyfall, and the nostalgic carousel.

 

Saint Germain des Près - Jazz Festival

If books and thrills aren't your thing, let the jazzy sway and duwop immerse you in a world of music. The dulcet tones of Saint Germain des Pres Jazz Festival have livened the 5th and 6th arrondissements of Paris every year since 2001. Running this year from the 24th of May to 4th of June 2018, the Saint-Germain des Pres Jazz Festival in Paris is a must-see for anyone traveling to Paris during the springtime. The festival houses concerts in venues not normally open to the public, like the breath-taking Richelieu amphitheatre of Sorbonne University, as well as in famous Parisian landmarks like the Saint-Germain and Saint Suplice churches, the Odeon Theatre and the Medieval Cluny Museum.
Jazz musicians such as Dee dee Bridgewater, Monty Alexander, Norah Jones and Kyle Eastwood have attended in past years, and you're likely to brush shoulders with a few well-known faces. The festival also includes photo expositions, master classes and conferences. What's more, the festival also puts on a couple free concerts, which your wallets will surely thank you for!
