Naturally we just have to use today's TBT to gush about the most famous French classic Cyrano de Bergerac and its loveable (albeit funny-looking) héro! Last year, Theatre in Paris was simply delighted to translate the play for our dedicated English speaking audience, and it will soon be back in town!
Originally by Edmond Rostand, Cyrano de Bergerac is about a tremendous poet who falls in love with beautiful Roxane. Ooh la la! But alas, Cyrano's strange appearance and shyness prevent him from making a move! The French ADORE this play and it is happily coming back to Paris this October! The talented Jean-Philippe Daguerre will be directing the renowned masterpiece at the gorgeous Théâtre Le Ranelagh !
What’s more, Cyrano has also attracted English-speaking audiences for decades ! After going to the Boston Colonial Theater, the play hit the stages of Broadway 1973, where it was superbly transformed into a musical. Famous Canadian actor/director Christopher Plummer won a Tony Award for best actor in a musical. Pas de problème if you were unable to see it in Paris last year: all you have to do is come back to the City of Lights this fall! To get you pumped, we've added a link to the award-winning movie adaptation starring Gérard Depardieu!!
